PADI Open Water Course
SCUBA diving is great fun and is a fantastic way to discover the diversity of the amazing underwater world. The PADI Open Water Dive Course enables you to enjoy the diving environment as a trained and safe diver.
Course overview:
The course is divided into 3 segments:
1. Classroom sessions
2. Pool sessions
3. Open Water
The classroom and pool sessions are normally held twice a week on Monday or Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9:30pm. We also run day courses during the school holidays.
We would like to make your first underwater experience as amazing as possible, so we take you out into the beautiful ocean at Goat Island, Matheson's bay or Wellington Reef. You do 4 dives, normally over one weekend.
Why should I dive with Dive HQ Hibiscus Coast?
- We want you to enjoy your diving experience so you’ll come to love diving as we do.
- Our instructor, Grant Searancke, has been instructing since 1992. He learnt to dive in New Zealand in 1986 and has dived his way around the world. Grant ensures that your first underwater experience will be a fun and safe experience. Grant also owns the dive centre so you can be sure that you will have a personal experience on your open water course and on every visit after that.
- We like to keep our classes small (usually 4 to 6 students) so that you have more one on one time with the instructor.
- We dive from our custom built boat so that you can get to the best dives site without having to do long surface swims. It also means that you get boat diving experience.
- We do all our open water dives in the ocean (no muddy lakes with nothing to see for our students!)
- We have regular dive trips (up to 5 trips a week) throughout the year from our own boat (not charters). We believe that once you've learnt to dive, you'll want to carry on so why not learn with a centre that actually gets out diving?!
- We offer $100 off the advanced course (provided you book within a certain time after finishing your open water course). This means you can get certified to 30m and also do 5 FUN dives with an instructor so that you can increase your confidence.
- We have a best price guarantee. If you find a better price for the same equipment, we'll match it.
- We offer our students 10% off equipment at normal price.
- We offer our students extra sessions if required so that you are comfortable before going out into the ocean.
- We have a high standard of well maintained equipment in our school including computers.

What do I need?
Snorkelling gear (wetsuit, mask, fins, weightbelt). Don't worry if you don't have this yet as you can hire it for $50, but for comfort we recommend you supply your own.
How do I book?
A $200 deposit will secure your place on the course.
Your deposit is non-refundable unless you have a permanent medical condition that prevents you from diving AND you give us sufficient notice (see below) AND you return your materials in new condition.
If you have a permanent medical condition that prevents you from diving then we will happily provide you with a refund, but you must give us at least a week's notice prior to the scheduled start of your dive course and provide us with a copy of your physician’s medical statement. Once you start your dive course, or if you advise us less than a week before the start of your dive course, we are unable to provide a refund for a failed medical or for other reasons.
If you miss a session or are late for your course you may need to do a catch-up session. Extra charges may apply.
If after you have booked or started a course you need to change your course dates, please speak with us as early as possible so we can try and accommodate your request.
